Ost (the East Mine) is one of Europe`s most modern mining sites.
Nevertheless, the pit with its gigantic tubes, from which stalactites were hanging like thin strands of hair on Gollum`s miserable head, gave a wonderful and fitting setting for the sombre chapters of the ring-company`s mine-passage from "The Lord of the Rings".
